What is the Head Gasket?

The head gasket is a rubber diaphragm that sits between the head of your engine and the rest of the powertrain assembly. The purpose of the head gasket is to create an airtight seal preventing oil or other fluid from leaking into the engine. When the head gasket goes bad, it creates pockets of open space that allow fluid and other particles to filter into the oil system. To replace the head gasket, we'll remove the engine's head, scrape off the existing gasket, clean up inside the engine bay, and then replace it with a new gasket.
