Performance
Engine Setup
Every new Subaru BRZ model delivers an exciting and engaging driving performance wherever your travels take you. Under the hood, all BRZ models benefit from a new 2.4-liter four-cylinder Boxer engine that delivers 228-horsepower and 184 pounds-feet of torque, allowing you to stay in command behind the wheel wherever your travels take you around nearby Walla Walla. The Boxer engine uses horizontally opposed pistons rather than other vehicles, which use a vertical or v-shaped piston setup. This allows the Boxer engine to be placed lower in the vehicle, resulting in a lower center of gravity and greater stability.
The engine can be paired with a standard six-speed manual transmission for full control in the driver's seat. There is an available six-speed manual transmission available on all models with steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters, letting you enjoy a more convenient ride, with the ability to take control when you want it.
Rear-Wheel Drive
The Subaru BRZ is the only Subaru vehicle that uses rear-wheel drive instead of all-wheel drive, on purpose. The BRZ is lightweight and has optimal weight distribution between the front and the end, in part thanks to the Boxer engine. The rear-wheel drive system balances the performance out, using limited slip differentials to ensure you have the utmost traction, stability, and control when you accelerate around tight corners.
